Description
On Saturday, April 9, the Lima Symphony Orchestra's 2021-2022 season came to an uplifting close. However, it is essential to remember that while we are privileged to share music in safe and secure surroundings, in Ukraine, a terrifying war and humanitarian crisis is unfolding. As a tribute to the strength and resilience of the Ukrainian people, the LSO Symphony and Chorus presented the Ukrainian national anthem for our audience.
Music Director Andrew Crust offered these words: "I think that morale is so important to people in their times of struggle, and I'd like to think that if someone in Ukraine tonight knew that in Lima, OH, an English-speaking chorus and a full symphony was about to perform their national anthem in Ukrainian, I would like to think that that would really be a source of strength."
Slava Ukraini!
"Shche ne vmerla Ukrainas" (translation)
The glory and freedom of Ukraine has not yet perished
Luck will still smile on us brother-Ukrainians.
Our enemies will die, as the dew does in the sunshine,
and we, too, brothers, we'll live happily in our land.
We’ll not spare either our souls or bodies to get freedom
and we’ll prove that we brothers are of Kozak kin.
