May is the month that we celebrate “Labour Day/ Worker’s Day” (1/5/1886) in the USA and other countries, the “Abolition of Slavery Day” in Brazil (13/5/1888) and the National Sorry Day (26/5/1998) in Australia.
Symbolic National dates mark a direction of thinking, a consciousness we want to create or perpetuate in our hearts as individuals and in our collective mind as a society.
The world of symbols is the world of the arts. Symbols are important although they may be only the beginning of transformation.
This song talks about real “freedom” (liberdade) as a continuous process. The Abolition of Slavery Day symbolised only the official beginning of this transformation. We shall keep working on ourselves and together to make these aspirations became real.
