Description
An unpublished recording of British-Canadian pianist Valerie Tryon playing Busoni's arrangement of Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D Minor BWV 565. This performance was set down in St George's Church in Bristol on February 16, 2000 and was originally planned for release on the APR label but was unissued because the timing of planned CD compilations didn't allow for its inclusion.
The ever-popular organ work was transcribed by Busoni in 1915 and has been a favourite of many famous pianists, among them Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli, Grigory Ginzburg, and Egon Petri.
Tryon's performance benefits from the reverberant acoustic of the church in which it was recorded and is notable for its declamatory emphases and clarity of texture.
