96-100: An extraordinary wine of profound and complex character displaying all the attributes expected of a classic wine of its variety. Wines of this caliber are worth a special effort to find, purchase and consume.
90 - 95: An outstanding wine of exceptional complexity and character. In short, these are terrific wines.
80 - 89: A barely above average to very good wine displaying various degrees of finesse and flavor as well as character with no noticeable flaws.
70 - 79: An average wine with little distinction except that it is soundly made. In essence, a straightforward, innocuous wine.
60 - 69: A below-average wine containing noticeable deficiencies, such as excessive acidity and/or tannin, an absence of flavor or possibly dirty aromas or flavors.
50 - 59: A wine deemed to be unacceptable.

Do you use the Wine App Vivino?!
I have an account, but I don’t really use it.
However, more than 73 Million people around the world are on Vivino and over the years they have added close to 330 Mio. Ratings.
The numbers are impressive but how useful are those ratings really?
Vivino scores are purely crowd sourced and they are therefore based on the taste of – mainly – amateurs.
The main critics are usually professionals with a background in wine – like me - and their scores are based on one person’s taste.
Is one expert’s opinion more valuable than many laymen? That is a question that I would like to dive into today.
We are therefore going to compare my opinion on some highly rated vivino wines to the ratings by the crowd to find out whether you can make decent purchasing decisions based on Vivino Scores.
