Fun Fact #1: There are many covers of the song,

Fun Fact #2: The song was originally titled "The Great Rock Island Route" along with sheet music in 1882.

Fun Fact #3: A different variation of this song can be heard in the music queue loop in the next attraction over, “Big Thunder Mountain Railroad”. This version was composed by George Bruns, who also is known for his work on the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction. With Splash Mountain's closure (and queue music removed), this version is now unfortunately the only one remaining in the Magic Kingdom.

Fun Fact #4: "The Wabash Cannonball" is included in the list of 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll by The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. On the list, it is the oldest song.

A Little Bit Of History: The Song has unknown origins. As previously stated, it was originally titled "The Great Rock Island Route." There are two well known stories regarding the origins of the song. Firstly, hobos by the definition of migrants visioned a train which served the purpose of a "death coach" and would bring the hobo's soul to its reward. The name of the train was "Wabash Cannonball". Listen to the song and you will hear the harmonica evoking the sound of a train horn. The second story is a tall tale in which Paul Bunyan's brother, which is Cal S. Bunyan built the Ireland, Jerusalem, Australian & Southern Michigan Line, a railroad. The 700-car train reached its destination an hour ahead of schedule after two months of operation due to its rapid speed. At last, the train accelerated to such a speed that it shot into space, where it may still be traveling, for all that is known.

The Splash Mountain Queue Music Loop for Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom, consists of bluegrass variations of songs from Song of the South, (a classic animated and live action Disney movie released in 1946), and folksongs mostly from the latter half of the 19th century, which is the era the movie takes place in. The songs range from pre, during and post Civil War. For example, "Goober Peas", another future queue song to be featured, was written during the war by soldiers because of the food shortages. Disney did an excellent job designing the music lineup for this queue and it's one of the longest loops for a Disney ride!

The particular version I covered was played at Walt Disney World’s version of Splash Mountain. This song would play as you would walk in the vicinity of Splash Mountain and while you waited in line. It’s part of an amazing queue loop that is over an hour long! As always, I hope you all enjoy. Feel free to leave suggestions for future video ideas!
