Description

Both the words and the melody of this Epiphany hymn were written by John Henry Hopkins, Jr. in 1857. Originally conceived to be performed at a Christmas pageant, the popularity of it among the performers convinced Hopkins to publish his hymn, thus becoming the first carol originating in the US to achieve not only widespread popularity, but also the first to appear in the UK's prestigious "Christmas Carols, Old and New".
