Description

Sri Ramanujacharya, one of the greatest philosophers and theologians belonging to the Hindu faith, was born in Sriperumbudur, in the current-day state of Tamil Nadu in India. Fondly referred to by his devotees as 'emperumAnAr', 'udayavar', he propounded the Vedanta philosophy known as 'Vishishtadvaita', which harmonized the concepts of devotion (bhakti) and knowledge of the supreme (jnana). His legacy continues to inspire millions of devotees worldwide, and his teachings have impacted the lives of millions of Sri Vaishnavas.

Furthermore, he emphasized the accessibility of divine grace to all, irrespective of caste, creed, or social status, thereby promoting social harmony and inclusivity within the Sri Vaishnava community. Considered to be an avatara of the Lord's eternal servant - Adisesha, it can be said that he ignited a 'spiritual renaissance' that continues to resonate across generations within the Sri Vaishnava tradition, embodying the eternal glory of devotion and the pursuit of divine truth.

On this important day (the thirunakshatram of emperumAnAr - 12th May 2024 - Chithirai Thiruvadhirai), let us listen to this song which describes his limitless glory and let us fall at his holy feet which are both the upAyam (the means) and upEyam (the goal) to attain moksha (liberation).

This song ('yathirAjar thiruvadiyai vaNanguvOm') was composed to commemorate the 1000th birth anniversary of Sri Ramanujacharya (in 2017).

The lyrics of the song were written by Dr. K Vageesh, renowned musician and musicologist. This song was set to tune and taught by my school music teachers - Ammu ma'am and Padmashree ma'am.

The opening verse 'sollin thogai kondu' is from the thaniyans of the 'rAmAnusa nUtrandhAdhi'.
