Each song explores a different facet of YHWH (יהוה), the personal name of God, the first appearance of the divine name YHWH in Genesis 2:4. Drawing from the rich tradition of Old Country Gospel music, these melodies carry timeless biblical truths about who God is and how He relates to His people. Each composition is deeply rooted in Scripture, offering not just music but a theological journey through the names by which God has made Himself known. Song List & Scripture References:
1. "Jehovah Tsidkenu" (The Lord Our Righteousness)
📖 Based on Jeremiah 23:6: "In his days Judah will be saved, and Israel will dwell securely. And this is the name by which he will be called: 'The LORD is our righteousness.'" This name reveals God as the source of our righteousness, fulfilled in Christ who became our righteousness (2 Corinthians 5:21). God provided His righteousness through faith in Christ, clothing us in His perfect standing before God.
2. "Jehovah Mekoddishkem" (The Lord Who Sanctifies)
📖 Found in Exodus 31:13: "You are to speak to the people of Israel and say, 'Above all you shall keep my Sabbaths, for this is a sign between me and you throughout your generations, that you may know that I, the LORD, sanctify you.'" This name shows God as the One who sets us apart for His purposes and progressively makes us holy—transforming us into Christ's image from glory to glory (2 Corinthians 3:18).
3. "Jehovah Jireh" (The Lord Will Provide)
📖 Revealed in Genesis 22:14: "So Abraham called the name of that place, 'The LORD will provide'; as it is said to this day, 'On the mount of the LORD it shall be provided.'"This name assures us that God sees our needs before we do and faithfully provides for us (Philippians 4:19).
4. "Jehovah Shalom" (The Lord is Peace)
📖 Introduced in Judges 6:24: "Then Gideon built an altar there to the LORD and called it, The LORD Is Peace." This name reminds us that God brings wholeness and completeness to our fragmented lives. In Christ, we have peace with God (Romans 5:1) and the peace of God that surpasses understanding (Philippians 4:7).
5. "Jehovah Rohi" (The Lord My Shepherd)
📖 Celebrated in Psalm 23:1: "The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want."
This intimate name portrays God as our personal guide, provider, and protector. Jesus identified Himself as the Good Shepherd who lays down His life for His sheep (John 10:11).
6. "Jehovah Rapha" (The Lord Who Heals)
📖 Proclaimed in Exodus 15:26: "For I am the LORD, your healer." After making bitter waters sweet at Marah, God revealed Himself as the source of all healing—physical, emotional, and spiritual—God restores what is broken in our lives and ultimately will heal all creation (Revelation 21:4).
7. "Jehovah Nissi" (The Lord My Banner)
📖 Established in Exodus 17:15: "And Moses built an altar and called the name of it, The LORD Is My Banner." This name reminds us that we fight spiritual battles under God's banner, finding victory not in our strength but in His (1 Corinthians 15:57).
8. "Jehovah Shammah" (The Lord Is There)
📖 Prophesied in Ezekiel 48:35: "The circumference of the city shall be 18,000 cubits. And the name of the city from that time on shall be, The LORD Is There." This name signifies God's promise to dwell with His people eternally. It fulfills humanity's deepest longing for God's presence and anticipates the New Jerusalem where "the dwelling place of God is with man" (Revelation 21:3).
