God’s Loving Kindness

                Kindness is listed as part of the fruit of the Spirit in Galatians chapter 5. It is a characteristic that all Christians should express toward one another and their fellow man. There are plenty of definitions of kindness that can be given, but I like what William Barclay had to say, “Kindness is the virtue of a man whose neighbor’s well-being is as important to him as his own.”

                Sometimes kindness alludes us when others have harmed us or have done something we asked them not to do. But we need to remember the kindness of GOD. How HE showed us kindness when we didn’t deserve it (Romans 5:8).   Many people in the pages of scripture have recalled GOD’s kindness toward them:

                David remembered GOD’s kindness, “Blessed be the LORD, For HE has made marvelous HIS lovingkindness to me in a besieged city.” Psalm 31:21

                Nehemiah reminds Israel that, “They refused to listen, and did not remember YOUR wondrous deeds which YOU had performed among them; So they became stubborn and appointed a leader to return to their slavery in Egypt. But YOU are a GOD of forgiveness, Gracious and compassionate, Slow to anger and abounding in lovingkindness; And You did not forsake them.” Nehemiah 9:17

                Take time this week to focus on how GOD is showing His lovingkindness toward you. Then grab hold of opportunities to show kindness to others because of the kindness given to you.
